Good Grief

In August of 2013,  I became certified in "Perinatal loss Care" by the   National Board for Certification of  Hospice and Palliative Care Nurses.

In many ways, that piece of paper only validated my current knowledge and current practice.  The certification just put a stamp on who I am and what I do.   I am an RN. I work in Labor and Delivery and I take care of mothers who are experiencing the birth and death of their babies.  I am a mother who still grieves the death of my  own daughter.

But it also challenged me to go further, grow more, give more.  Together with a group of like-minded co-workers, we are putting together a program that will care for families who experience perinatal loss, not just at the time of delivery, but also in the months preceeding and in the long months after.  We will also care for the care-takers; the nurses and doctors who layer their own grief upon grief and keep on giving of themselves.

Ecc. 3:4 tells us that there is a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance.  Expect that here.  I will be posting learnings and experiences, not just mine, but also those of others folks who have walked a similar path.

Welcome!  You will grieve, you will celebrate, you will be changed.
